### SAFETY & SECURITY ###
A FOCUS ON SAFETY
The XF’s sophisticated safety systems help to ensure a safe journey for driver, passengers and other road users.
A PROTECTIVE BODYSHELL
The XF’s reinforced bodyshell incorporates new-generation high-strength steels to create a vertical safety ring around the cabin.
AIRBAG AND SAFE SEATING
The XF has two-stage airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as side and curtain airbags – all controlled by a sensing system that ensures they will only deploy if the seats are occupied. In addition, the seatbelts feature ‘soft landing’ technology to soften the contact with the airbag, and an anti-whiplash system is designed to move the head restraints forward if there is an accident.
BLIND SPOT MONITOR
The new XF’s optional Blind Spot Monitor uses radar to take much of the uncertainty out of changing lanes. An amber warning icon appears in the external mirror when the system detects vehicles that can’t be seen either directly or in one of the mirrors.
PEDESTRIAN CONTACT SENSING SYSTEM?
The industry-leading Pedestrian Contact Sensing System? and automatically deployable bonnet can also help protect those outside the car. The system is designed to raise the bonnet slightly if it detects contact with a pedestrian in order to help prevent their head from contacting hard points under the bonnet.
AIDS TO SAFER DRIVING
The new XF features a number of safety systems designed to improve road-holding and stability:
- Emergency brake assist
- Electronic brake-force distribution
- Anti-lock brakes
- Traction control (through engine and brake intervention)
- Dynamic Stability Control
- Cornering brake control
- Engine drag torque control
When Adaptive Cruise Control is specified, the new XF also features Intelligent Emergency Braking and active seat belts that detect how firmly they need to be applied during emergency braking. The new XF also has understeer control logic, which is designed to help slow the car and restore grip to the front wheels if the driver understeers.
SAFER, MORE PRECISE PARKING
Ultrasonic sensors in the new XF’s rear bumper are designed to detect objects up to 1.8m away and provide the driver with an audible warning. At the same time, graphics on the colour screen represent where the object is in relation to the car. The new XF also offers the option of combining a front parking aid – designed to alert the driver to objects ahead of the car – and a rear camera parking aid, which displays video from a rear-facing digital camera on the Touch-screen.
TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING
With this option fitted, the XF driver can receive an alert message if the pressure in any of the tyres goes down.
SECURITY
Door locks on the XF are controlled remotely from the key fob, and each door can also be locked or double–locked with a button on the handle. In addition, the doors will lock automatically when the car reaches a pre-set speed, which can be chosen by the driver. The XF is also protected by an alarm and engine immobiliser.
### MULTIMEDIA ###
INTUITIVE VISUAL CONTROLS
Most of the XF’s multimedia systems can be controlled from the easy-to-use 7" colour-screen in the centre console. The Front Media interface provides full control of an iPod or MP3 player, displaying details of playlists and music stored by artist, album and genre.
AUDIO
The XF comes with one of three superb audio systems, depending on the model chosen. All have CD players and radios and are compatible with WMA and MP3 players, as well as USB storage devices. The driver and front-seat passenger have full control of the output through the central colour screen.
- The Jaguar 400W sound system has ten speakers, with a woofer and tweeter unit in each door. For good bass reproduction, the woofer is mounted much higher than it would be in a conventional system.
- The Jaguar 600W premium sound system has a powerful DSP amplifier and 11 speakers, including a sub-woofer for enhanced bass reproduction.
- The Bowers & Wilkins 1200W system has 17 speakers and features Dolby? Pro-Logic II Surround Sound for extraordinary sound quality throughout the cabin. Designed and tuned for the new XF by Bowers & Wilkins, the clarity of the system’s sound reproduction is enhanced by Kevlar? cones in the larger speakers and aluminium domes on the tweeters. All systems can be fitted with a digital radio tuner.
TELEVISION
The XFR, XF Premium Luxury and XF Portfolio all give the option of using the 7" colour screen as a television, provided the car is stationary. Up to nine analogue and nine digital channel settings can be stored.
BLUETOOTH? PHONE AND AUDIO
The new XF’S advanced Bluetooth? technology can link compatible mobile phones to the new XF’s in-built hands-free telephone system, without the need for wires or cradles. Calls can be made and accepted either through the central screen, the steering wheel controls or the optional JaguarVoice? feature. It’s also possible to play streamed music from MP3 players with Bluetooth? through the new XF’s audio system.Jaguar Bluetooth? Connectivity Centre.
HARD DISK NAVIGATION AND AUDIO
The new XF’s optional navigation system is based on an in-built hard disk drive, which allows for much quicker searches and route calculations than conventional systems. Navigation information is initially uploaded through a DVD drive, which replaces the XF’s standard CD slot when the navigation system is specified. This DVD drive can also be used to play audio CDs or, while the car is stationary, video DVDs. In addition, material from up to ten CDs can be imported onto the hard disk drive and played directly through the new XF’s audio system.
JAGUARVOICE?
With the new XF’s JaguarVoice? option, the driver presses the ‘voice’ button on the steering wheel and can then use spoken commands to control the audio, climate control and navigation systems, as well as the colour screen and Bluetooth? connection. The system incorporates the latest ‘Say what you see’ technology, allowing the driver to respond to on-screen prompts. JaguarVoice? can be programmed to recognise the user’s voice, which helps the navigation system respond specific requests such as ‘restaurant’ or ‘Jaguar dealer’.
